A V-belt has three different measurements: the inner circumference (Li), the outer circumference (La), and the neutral surface length (Ld). These can differ by more than 90 mm from each other, depending on the profile. The simplest method is to stretch the belt over two measuring discs and measure the center distance. Then use the formula:
`Ld = 2C + π/2 × (D₁ + D₂) + (D₁ − D₂)² / (4C)`

These are narrow-profile V-belts with increasing width and load capacity:

• SPZ: small profile, light machines (compressors, small fans). Top width ~10 mm.
• SPA: medium, most commonly used in industrial applications. Width ~13 mm.
• SPB: heavier, for higher power outputs. Width ~17 mm.
• SPC: large profile, heavy industrial drives. Width ~22 mm.

The number after the letters is the neutral surface length in mm (e.g. SPB 2500 = SPB profile, Ld = 2500 mm).

Narrow-plane V-belts (SPZ/SPA/SPB/SPC) are more compact and can transmit up to 1.5 times more power than classic V-belts (Z/A/B/C) at the same belt width.
Select narrow area as:

• The space is limited
• You want to transfer higher assets
• Higher driving speeds are required (up to 42 m/s)

Classic V-belts are suitable as replacements in older machines specifically designed for that profile.

With correct use and proper tension: 12,000–25,000 operating hours. Replace the belt if:

• Tears or fraying are visible on the sides
• The belt at the bottom is hardened or glazed (glossy surface)
• The belt is stretched by more than 1.5% (sunk too far in the groove)
• An abnormal beeping sound occurs at the start
